Young Leaders Summit: Becoming a Global Health Entrepreneur
Young leaders are invited to apply for the Young Leaders Summit: Becoming a Global Health Entrepreneur taking place on April 21 at Stony Brook University in New York. The summit will feature workshops led by social entrepreneurs who have been at the forefront of the global fight against AIDS and malaria. The workshops will focus both on innovative opportunities to do field work in global health and entrepreneurial approaches to building community-based campaigns to support the global fight against AIDS and malaria. The summit’s keynote speaker is Joelle Tanguy, the Managing Director of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS. The summit seeks to inspire young leaders to see the reduction of global diseases such as AIDS and malaria as the special mission of our generation. The summit is timed to coincide with the launch of Buzz Cuts, a new student challenge that strives to harness the power of media and student creativity to save lives and protect children from malaria. The summit also is timed to take place on the same week as American Idol’s engage the U.S. public on global poverty and health issues and t o coincide with Americans for Informed Democracy’s From “Idol” to Active initiative. Thanks to the generous support of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Open Society Institute, Ford Foundation and Hewlett Foundation, the summit is free for selected participants, including tuition and food.Travel to the conference is at the participant’s expense, but Americans for Informed Democracy will do its best to set up car pools for participants coming from the Northeast and mid-Atlantic region.
